Saturna Island from Semiahmoo Marina might be the short-distance, early fall adventure you’re looking for. It is situated approximately midway between the Lower Mainland of B.C. and Vancouver Island and is the most easterly of the Gulf Islands. It is surrounded on three sides by the Canada/USA border, to the north is Point Roberts. Approximately half of the island is in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (GINPR) that was formed in 2003 from existing provincial parks. Knowing where to moor your boat, find interesting places to visit and where to rest your head are important considerations, so here are some tips to help make the journey the best it could be for you.

First, you need to know where to moor your boat. There is public moorage at Lyall Harbor. The rates are reasonable. Several people use this location and even stay overnight. As usual, the prices vary depending on your boat’s length.

Places to Stay
Saturna is an island where guests can get cozy and even bring their beloved dogs along for the visit. If you’d like to leave your boat at the harbor and grab your bikes, here are some places that are available and some details on the accommodations.

Lily Lane is a cottage that is filled with all the luxuries of home in an intimate location. A wood burning fireplace is available for relaxation after a day of exploration. The Breezy Bay Farm B & B is a combination B&B and camping resort. Depending on how rustic the goal is for your stay, this is a great choice with 50 acres of property to enjoy. Private beaches and kayak options are all available as well. Cottage 4 at East Point is situated in a private section of the island, these are beam cottages that offer a private pebbled beach to explore. Each has a fully-equipped kitchen and offers up to 2 bedrooms with one bath.

There are so many things to do on the island. Wildlife is everywhere. Kayaking is available as are lessons on how to do it safely. There’s even whale watching groups to partake in.

Heritage Center is a historic location to make sure you see. It’s the old fog alert station for the island. There are regular exhibits showing all year long.

There is an Anglican church for those that are inclined to spiritual meetings, a library, and a community club to explore on Saturna Island.

Places to Eat
Besides the cabins that offer a full kitchen, a B&B that offers meals twice a day, there is also a unique restaurant. Located at the Saturna Lodge and called the Mill Restaurant, it offers a wide selection of healthy gourmet meals, including barbeque. The lodge is also available for those people that might be looking for a wedding destination. The entire lodge can be rented and used to accommodate your wedding and guests. Don’t forget the Saturna Lighthouse Pub, located right next to Lyall Harbor and the ferry dock!
