For Sale: 1973 Dickerson Ketch 36 ft.
A Classic Sailboat with Extensive Restoration Work
Due to age-related constraints, I am reluctantly offering my cherished 1973 Dickerson Ketch 36 ft. for sale. This vessel, which I have lovingly owned from 2006-2016 and again from 2023 to the present, has seen substantial restoration efforts over the last two years, with an investment of at least $20,000 and countless hours of meticulous work. The boat was hauled out for two months in 2023 to facilitate these extensive restorations. Detailed information and photographs are available to genuinely interested buyers.
Construction and Design
This classic sailboat boasts a robust construction of mahogany on oak frames, ensuring durability and timeless elegance. The entire top has been professionally fiberglassed, resulting in a vessel that is entirely leak-free, both from the top. This robust and reliable construction promises many more years of enjoyable sailing.
Engine and Mechanical Features
The boat is powered by a very dependable M40 Universal 4-cylinder diesel engine with 3300 hours of use. Recently, a new raw water pump was installed, further enhancing the engine’s reliability. The sailboat also features a newer head fitted with a new three-way valve and a holding tank for added convenience and functionality. The 2 x 40 gal. tanks for diesel and 3 x 50 gal. tanks for water are stainless steel tanks.
Interior and Comfort
The cabin soles have been sanded and varnished, giving the interior a polished and aesthetically pleasing look. The boat features new custom stainless steel winch mounts, which are yet to be installed, adding to the vessel’s functionality and ease of operation. The cabin provides a comfortable and inviting space for relaxing after a day of sailing.
Covers and Enclosures
This sailboat includes a winter cover and sail covers that have been patched and restitched to ensure their longevity and effectiveness. Additionally, the boat has a solid aluminum dodger with a Sunbrella cockpit cover, providing a full enclosure for the cockpit area. The cockpit covers have also been professionally restitched and fitted with new windows, offering excellent protection from the elements while maintaining clear visibility.
Ongoing Restoration and Maintenance
While significant restoration work has been completed, some carpentry, fiberglassing, and painting remain to be done. This is reflected in the boat’s low price, offering an excellent opportunity for a dedicated sailor to complete the restoration and enjoy a rewarding project. Full documentation, including a detailed explanation and pictorial history of the work completed and the tasks yet to be done, will be provided to interested buyers.
This 1973 Dickerson Ketch 36 ft. represents a unique opportunity to own a piece of maritime history with many modern updates and improvements. Its solid construction, reliable engine, and ongoing restoration make it an ideal project for a sailing enthusiast looking for a classic sailboat with character and potential. For further details and to arrange a viewing, please contact me at your earliest convenience. This vessel is truly a gem, waiting for the right owner to continue its storied journey on the open waters.
