Semiahmoo Rock & Roll RaftUp

Last year, Dave Dinesen, a Semiahmoo Marina slip-owner and musician extraordinaire, decided to take his music to the waves. So was born the Semiahmoo Rock & Roll Raft Up, strengthened by fellow ad-hock band members Jordan Dinesen, Ashley Milne, Jim Mecke and others, the E-Dock Band as they called themselves, again put on a high-energy concert of the 60s and 70s rock.

With a warm southerly wind coming off the tide flats of Drayton Harbor, on a floating barge nestled within the marina itself, the E-Dock Band treated folks to tunes like ‘Cuts Like a Knife”, Put a Little Love in Your Heart” and Didn’t I, Didn’t I See You Crying?” and the Rolling Stones “Miss You.”

“We’re planning on making this an annual event, adding a few new surprises each year,” said Doug Romano, harbormaster at Semiahmoo Marina. While many people were content to enjoy the music from the Marina  Esplanade, many folks brought their own lawn chairs and blankets and crowded along the beach. The more intrepid listeners took to the seas in their kayaks and dinghies, rafting together in Rock & Roll heaven.

This year and in the future, the Marina has made this a public event. Local radio station KISM was on hand to report on the concert while Semiahmoo Marina Café was armed with plenty of cold beer, hot dogs, chips, and pop.
