Is your dream to boat the inside passage to Alaska? Then you are not alone in this desire. I read Transcending the Gordian Knot: A Boating Adventure With a Father-Son Rite of Passage by Steven A. Windell, this last year and not being a boater myself, could only visualize the raw beauty of the glaciers, waterfalls, coastlines and the spectacular scenery he describes.  But I also could not understand the desire to take a small craft and his son on such a wild and dangerous adventure.

Another story, Inside the Inside Passage: Power Boating to Alaska by Donald S. Riggs, who writes “this is a story about the audacious spirit of four men and two teenagers who threw caution to the wind and thought anything was possible. Confronting huge oceans, ice flows, and gigantic glaciers with an adventurous spirit, they faced the trials and tribulations of taking a 21-ft soft top boat and a 23-ft power boat from Arizona to the inside passage of Alaska”.

Author Elsie Hulsizer wrote Glaciers, Bears, and Totems: Sailing in Search of the Real Southeast Alaska, “while spending three summers with her husband sailing, writing and photographing the towering fjords, immaculate glaciers, throwback fishing villages and overexposed tourist traps of America’s largest state”.

In the February 2017 issue of Sea Magazine, you can find an article about the travels of Jim and Robin Roberts. They have a great blog at mvadventures.com where they share their stories and great pictures of the southeast area of Alaska.

Fineedge.com offers Passage to Alaska,14 Days Up the Inside Passage by Wooden Boat by Mark Bunzel. He quotes, “With 12 people on this trip, it was a culmination of months of preparation, and years of dreaming about it. The dream for many boaters is to head north and explore Alaska, the last great boating frontier left in North America. This passage is one which will be etched into the memories for the rest of their lives”.
